Planning a garden

Postby Kittycat on Thu Jan 17, 2008 8:53 pm

Can anyone recommend where I could get some onsite advice on how to plan a garden design and what plants to choose for land around a new house in Inishowen, that won't cost me the earth (literally!)?? So far I've planted a native mixed hedge (hawthorn, holly, dogrose etc), with alternating birch and rowan trees, all around the boundary of my site (which is square shaped and flat), but I'm really not sure where and what to plant inside that. I adore trees but not sure which to choose and worried that I'll put them in the wrong place.

Hi Kittycat and welcome to the forum!

You sound as though you have started off well with the garden putting a natural hedge and native trees around it.

Check out this link for a starter:

I like the idea of taking things easy and letting the garden tell me what it needs (I'm sounding like an ageing hippie here!) but I do feel that getting familier with the land helps make the right decisions (and saves on costly mistakes)

Would you have any photo's you could send in so we can get a better idea about the garden?

Cheers
