WIND TURBINE INFO?

Postby inishindie on Tue Jan 22, 2008 10:36 am

From Steve Homer www.buncrana.com/forums/

Hi all,

Well its that time of the month again and we have been HIT with our ESB - Electric bill.

I live in the rural part of Carndonagh near to Malin – Along with our bill we also have to pay a rural charge for the upkeep of our overground poles that carry the said electric.

Given that we get loads of wind here (& I mean wind !) I was thinking about installing a wind turbine.

This would then reduce our electric bill & help the environment by reducing our carbon footprint – Not to mention give us electric when the mains goes off as it does on a regular basis!

I guess my questions are:
1)Am I able to get a grant for a wind turbine?
2)Where would I buy such an item – given my location?
3)Would I need planning permission ?

Many thanks

Steve

From Liamthebarber

B&Q launched a range of domestic wind generators recently,

I would say that you will need Planning permission, as for a grant, try in here somewhere;

Hi Steve

Some of them are critisised because the amount the appliances cost went up in proportion with the funding available!

Still they are worth looking at

Cheers

As Liam said, the most info on home installation is:

Sustainable Energy Ireland

http://www.sei.ie/index.asp?locID=1305&docID=-1

Andy Wilson from Westport was very knowledgeble about wind turbines for the home (he was at the summer gatherings) He might be able to point you in the right direction for a turbine. I do know of a company in Scotland that do small ones for the chimneys but I think the vibrations with our winds would resonate through the house!

Also have a look at this list of suppilers;
