I bought some zinc containers recently, should I line them before I plant or not ? I live in Dublin city, am apt dweller, but love to garden, I grow all my plants in containers, I have access to the courtyard garden where most of my plants are, any advice would be most welcome, Any garden clubs I could join ?

rusty

I like the zinc containers. They will probably rust inside whether they are lined or not,as the damp will fetch off the zinc plate. It will be a slow job though so I shouldn't worry. (the plants shouldn't mind them either)

The only thing I would recommend is that if they are stood on an expensive or attractive surface (decking -slabs) they could cause rust stains. If this is so you might have to line them to make them watertight and then put a cover of some kind over the top to stop them filling with water, or put them somewhere where the rain wouldn't flood the container (unless you were growing pond plants!!)

I am hoping to get a comprehensive list of gardening clubs in Ireland, but it might be some time!! Are there any near you? I am lloking for clubs to put on the gardening.ie site!
